"Sure, Zoid, mock my pain! See if I cast any more of my pearls of wisdom before you...you...chickens! ...No, wait-!" 

I’ve mentioned in this space before my love of the comic strip, Pearls Before Swine, and more importantly, its writer’s fondness for long, circuitous stories that end in a really lame pun-laden punchline. These strips usually end with Rat lambasting his creator, Stephan Pastis, at the latter’s own writing desk for his worthlessness as an artist and/or human being. Also, PBS (the strip, not the public television network) often randomly pulls in characters from other strips: most notably the kids from “Family Circus”, and always to great comic effect.

I decided to steal both these ideas, attempt them myself in an exceedingly lame manner, and pass it off as something “special” for my 300th strip.

Who said the life of a cartoonist ain’t glamorous?

 "Hey, look! My old set of Snorks Shrinky Dinks!" 

Sitting on my desk right now is an artifact from my childhood: my own “egg” of Silly Putty. The egg even has a helpful piece of black label-tape that has my name stamped on it. That was so that my egg and my brother’s egg wouldn’t get confused. This was an important thing when we were children; trust me on that.

Given that the newspaper ink transfer began to fail years ago when newspapers began printing with soy-based inks, rather than petroleum-based ones, it’s usefulness for that particular purpose has long-since fallen by the wayside. Add to that the fact that we don’t even get a physical newspaper anymore, and it’s become a poster-child for “moot”.

Roll it up into a ball, it bounces.

Yank it apart really fast, it snaps.

Spend any length of time with it in your hands, and your fingers begin to smell funny.

…whee…

…and yet, it remains on my desk.

 "Would it be better if I pretended I was Luke Skywalker, flying through the trench on the Death Star?" "...Marginally. Yes." 

Y’know, I haven’t actually watched any of the Olympics in years… Last time I really remember it was summer of ‘92 in Barcelona. INXS’ “Not Enough Time” was one of the pop “theme songs” of that year. I worked at a fast food restaurant at the time, and watched the games on the TVs in the dining room during my breaks. Haven’t seen any of the Olympics since. At least not that I remember. I suppose that makes me some sort of über-nerd or something.

You should not be surprised by that.

Oh, and speaking of things nerdish, my new comic, “The Social Life of Frank and Linh” debuted yesterday on Inkling Media’s blog! Go on over, check it out, and thank Ken Mueller for helping me get it going! I’m pretty excited about Linh coming into her own as a character. I feel all official-like, getting a spin-off like that. Oh, and I might have some other nifty developments coming down the pike, but I wanna stay hush-hush on that for now. Stay tuned!

Nevermind, all. Got it sorted out. Apparently–and I truly had no prior knowledge of this–I *ROCK*. #

 "And you can tell the air temperature by the blueness of his skin color! Once it goes below zero, he turns into a Smurf!" 

So, yeah, a little over a week ago, we got smacked with a mess of snow. A friend of mine–originally from upstate New York–joked, “You know what we called snowstorms like this when I was growing up? Wednesday. Ha!”

The rest of us, thinking it a good joke, laughed.

Then, a few days later, while we were still digging out from the first storm, another blizzard hit us. Grand total between the two storms for our area? Around 36 inches of snow. That’s 3 feet!

And do you know on what day that second batch hit us?

Wednesday.

On the 8th day, God made cook 'n serve butterscotch pudding. And by "the 8th day", I mean today. And by "God", I mean me. Mmmm… #

If you need a refresher, Cole was first seen in this strip, and this one. Finally gave him a name tonight. He should be thanking me, despite the fact that he really comes off as a jerk in tonight’s strip. Gotta give a little to get a little, Cole.

By the way, Linh’s experience is nothing like my own personal experience. My part-time job is at a church, not a grocery store. Couldn’t be more different. Ahem.

I really, really hate having to discipline my 6yo. Feels like such a waste of precious time and energy with my boy… #
